Projects

The projects that I had worked as a research assistant and my role in the projects are listed below.

2016 – 2019     Strategic Undergraduate STEM Talent Acceleration Initiative (SUSTAIN) Project, National Science Foundation (NSF) Grant (Grant No: 1644148)

  • SUSTAIN provides a coherent ecosystem of academic, social, and career support services strategically designed for a diverse cohort of high-achieving, low-income STEM students during their first and second years of undergraduate study. My role as a research assistant in the project is to help with the coordination of project interventions, data collection, analysis, and reporting. I also take a role in presenting the findings of the project at national and international conferences.

2013 – 2016     Revisiting scientific inquiry in the classroom: towards an interdisciplinary framework in science teaching and learning, supported by TUBITAK and European Union Marie Curie Co-Fund Brain Circulation Scheme Fellowship (291762/2236)

  • The project aimed at improving pre-service science teachers’ understanding of scientific practices using a model known as the Benzene Ring Heuristic (Erduran and Dagher 2014). My role as a research assistant in the project was to help with the coordination of project intervention, the organization of the seminar and workshop, data collection, analysis, and reporting. I also took a role in presenting the findings of the project at national and international conferences.

2015                   New Model Mathematics, Science, & Technology Education project, 2015, supported by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) and Kocaeli National Education Directorate (92005345-604.02-169206)

  • The project aimed at using evidence-based teaching practices to improve 7th-grade students at a rural public school in Turkey. My role as a researcher was to develop and implement evidence-based teaching instructions.

2014                   Clean Environment, Clean Black Sea Project, 2014, funded by TUBITAK (213B638)

  • The project aimed at developing practical and effective instructional materials that could be used in environmental education at the middle school level. My role as a research assistant was to review the literature and to work with other project team members to develop the instructional materials.

2014                   Technical Assistance for Strengthening the Special Education (TASSE), supported by EU and coordinated by the Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Turkey (EuropeAid/128640/D/SER/TR)

  • The project aimed at adapting a validated instrument into Turkish that is widely used to measure the academic challenges of students at different grade levels. My role as a research assistant in the project was to help with the adaptation of the instrument by working with science teachers at various grade levels to decide on the appropriateness of the item for each grade level.

2013                  Adapting a questionnaire to determine the effects of parent involvement, self-efficacy and coping strategies in students’ academic achievement, cooperation with Dr. Stefanie Morgenroth from University of Bergische Wuppertal

  • The project aimed at adapting a validated and widely used instrument to Turkish. My role as a research assistant in the project was to help with the adaptation of the instrument, implementation to 4th-grade students for the validation of the instrument, data collection, analysis, and reporting. I also took a role in presenting the findings of the project at an international conference.
